A poem about childhood.
Through a half-beheld haze,(perhaps my eyes were closed)
I guess that was my life, (though I wish another prospect)
And I barely know enough (or did then care)
To regret it.

Here’s in memory of running,
Of summers spent with my hair down,
Of chasing the ice-cream man,
And watching my popsicle melt on the sidewalk.

At some point (I can scarce remember)
The way (mostly mine)
Things were done became more important
Than the end result.

Here’s in memory of wonder,
Of the first snowflakes bubbling up to balls,
Of laughing on a swing-set,
And playing tag at twilight at the school.

It seems at best, ironic, (if this best, then what be worst?)
That we spent so long wanting (dying for age)
What only time could bring (though it could not take away)
Only to be crying ( we have already laughed our share)
Through the whole entire thing.

Here’s in memory of daring
Of braving summer days with ease
Of taking backyards by storm
When night was falling all around.

In memory of running,
Whispers,
Darkness,
Tears,
In memory of wonder,
Laughing,
Loving,
Free.
In memory of effortless,
The ease of being me.
