A poem about accepting who we are as a nation.
You want to talk about the American dream
That subject makes me want to fucking scream
We’ve been force fed that bullshit our whole lives
You might as well say that only the weak survives

“Oh say can you see, by the dawn’s early light”
I’m blinded by corruption, and bound by laws so tight
Some of us bleed red, white, and blue
Some of us have pride in our nation, it’s true

They say that you can be anything you want to be
There isn’t many power forwards standing 4 foot 3
They say go to college, make something of yourself
That’s easy to say when you can afford the books on the shelf

I think the American dream is a fucking joke
If I invested in it I’d probably go broke
But the go for broke attitude is what they want to see
In the prosperous land of opportunity

I don’t have the answer to the problems we face
Our history isn’t written chalk, easy to erase
So I’ll write my problems on paper and throw it in a stream
For now I have to rely on the American dream
