A poem about death, my only true shadow.
Why do you follow me?
No matter where I go,
Never listening to my plea,
I may never know.

You are like my shadow,
Hardly leaving my side,
Seeming to come and go,
As often as the tide.

I will ask you this one time;
Will you ever leave me alone,
Or have I committed a crime,
That keeps me as your own?

I look down the empty road,
And think of the lives that are gone,
I see our paths do have a node,
And wonder if there will be a new dawn.

Shall I continue on a new,
Or shall I end it here,
Both options I might rue,
But only one of them I fear.

My fear is not of death,
But a life with no one I know,
As damaging as crystal meth,
And as bare as the snow.

As my decision is coming clear,
I realize this will be my end,
There's only one thing I can hear,
The sound of a soul about to mend.
