Darkness, fading, swaying, becoming, lower, and lower, we venture.
Down, Down, Down

By: Doug Gealy

The lights are dull
They dimly twinkle scattered bronze sight
Swaying side to side from a wind that doesn’t exist
Left to right illumination
Your visit will be brief
For you appear without explanation

Standing in the middle of the stoned spiral stairs
You continue unexplainably down
Down
Down
Down
You wonder in amusement
What could my fear behold?
Am I boldly, brave or naively dull

Heart racing in the middle of a mental marathon
Maybe you should leave
So much for being brief
You continue unexplainably down
Down
Down
Down
The stoned steps continue

Every step a lesser wind that doesn’t exist
A duller dim
A slower sway
String swings with the head of a bulb
Side to side
From the assumption of a ceiling

Every step adds more darkness
Shadows are jumping at the bit
For a glance of what use be you

Continuing down
Down
Down
Down

You have joined the darkest shadows
In the pitch black bottom cellar that doesn’t exist
You cease to care for anything other than night
Light like your self no longer exists
Your bulb is smashed
Your soul persists
Down
Down
Down
Waking with the moonless night
You Haunt
