A moment of inspiration.
The cartoonist jumped, Amazed-
when the Happiness he made
jumped out of the page,
and danced its way down the stairs...
down through the hallway
and out-onto the street,
bumping into children
and making them Screech!
with delight,
as the adults ran in
to turn on the lights!

But the Happiness grew,
and rolled up the night!
And the Authorities of Darkness,
and of the Left, and of the Right,
had no power at all to put up a fight.
And the Anarchy of Laughter
came over the place,
and not even the adults could keep a straight face.

And soon the whole world was mad with guffaws;
and the Russians,
and the Eskimos,
and all the outlaws,
held onto their bellies and grinned at each other…
and when they could speak,
all they could say, was “Brother” (and that with a sputter).

And the wave rolled around
and filled every place
and the rays of Bright Laughter
shot out into space.
And in the whole universe
was not one single disparity; and even God’s angels
shouted out with hilarity!

And as the cartoonist sat, smiling, and shaking his head,
he saw it was late,
and made tea, and went to bed.
