A Contest Prompt, "Endure" - this form is a Villanelle (See Dylan Thomas)
~~~~~~~~~~~~Endure~~~~~~~~~~~~
I will survive this trial, new strength gain
The past and future overwhelm and ensnare
I can endure today despite my pain.
When a long union is cleaved in twain
Grief threatens to engulf, yet I'm aware
I will survive this trial, new strength gain
When it appears my efforts are in vain
My goals distant, hope fades. Still, I fare:
I can endure today despite my pain.
Exhausted, no more energy to drain
Responsibility calls; I prepare.
I will survive this trial, new strength gain
Loneliness, hopelessness, joy's dire bane
Beat me down, despairing; I weep, soul bare
I can endure today despite my pain.
With experience cliche's words attain
Sense beyond "This too, shall pass", my prayer;
I will survive this trial, new strength gain
I can endure today despite my pain.
