I wrote this on my daughter's birthday, based on her point of view.
My Birthday Wish

If I had only just one wish
To make all on my own
It would be to see my daddy
For God to bring him home.
Sometimes I talk to him on the phone
But it is not the same
I want to show him all I’ve learned
How I can read and write my name.
I miss him tucking me in at night
And giving me great big hugs
I miss him swinging me at the park
And catching lightning bugs.
I don’t understand where he is
Or why we have to be apart
But when I’m sad I remember what he said-
That he is always in my heart.
Mommy says not too much longer
To be strong and not to cry
But Friday is my birthday
The days are slipping by.
I want to share my cake with him
And show him all my gifts
I hope that he will make it here
That is my Birthday Wish.
