a poem of longing
Sitting in the moonlight

A breeze rustling through the trees

It whispers across my skin

And tendrils wrap around my wrists

Leading me through the dark.

My invisible guide

Coaxing me this way and that

Pushing and pulling

Me through the evergreens

Toward an unknown destination.

My pulse pounds harder

My breath comes quicker

My mind races

For an unknown, unseen reason

My desire to arrive swells

Instead of being led

I am now racing through the trees

Ducking and leaping

An explainable need filling me

My hands reach out almost touching my destination

Yet I’m falling

Through the forest floor

My destination retreating from me

Leaving me to flail

On my downward descent.

I find myself in the meadow again

Skin illuminated in the moonlight.

Silent tears make their tracks down my face

Yet soft tendrils caress my skin

The breeze promising to once again lead my way.

To my destination.

To my love.
