Poem about a man living a lie.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
His smile proclaims happiness.
His words say he is content.
But his eyes show the pain.

Under that thick skin of his,
A heart has been beaten and crushed.
His spirit, broken in two.
And regret has filled his soul.

A regret he gave his trust,
A guarded trust, one must deserve.
Now, he assumes deserving doesn't make one worthy;
For, he finds any and all are willing to hurt.

The pain he feels is too painful to share,
So he plays the untouched, he plays it well.
Telling himself, it doesn't hurt each time a tear clouds his eye.
The darker he is inside, the brighter he seems to shine.
