Going back to basics! How Can I begin the journey of finding the creative spark?
As a child I enjoyed writing stories, as a teenager I wrote endless poetry, as an adult I can barely think up an idea to write about.  I feel like every writing skill I may have ever had is gone, forgotten.  I seem unable to wrap my mind around such concepts as "character development" or "plot development".  Where ideas once flowed like wine at a wedding my thoughts now are soley directed at the mundane tasks of everyday life.
Yet something tells me it is vital to dredge up the forgotten skills, that it is perhaps vital to my survival and emotional well being.  That if I completely neglect this area of my soul that my life and personality will slowly sink into oblivion and nary a creative thought will ever again rear it's head.
So then the question is where do I start?
Where does one begin to find the creative spark?  Is it even still there somewhere, buried?  Or has it been completely extinguished over the years?  Or if it is still there, faintly burning and begging for oxygen, what further step will fan that flame?
To begin with one would assume one would need to put pen to paper.  However when nothing happens past that point it would seem perhaps an initial idea would be necessary.  If no ideas are easily forthcoming where does one turn for inspiration?  Can sheer dogged determination overcome a lack of ideas?
