written for my mother, who is paranoid schizophrenic, with no format, as she would see it
Mama, where do you go
When the darkness comes
Replacing your brilliant sun
Do the angels cower or run
Distorting a world only you know
Do the faces around you change
Do the demons inside you rise
Does the hatred resonate
Like the echoes of a violin
Does the anger fester and grow
When your brown eyes turn to black
Am I your enemy once again
Do I become the evil child
Unwanted, reckless and wild
Taking you back to the shame
Of your scarred and wicked past
When the faces dare to change
When the demons awake and rise
When you brown eyes turn to black
When you forget my given name
Do you see yourself in me
Angered by the lack of sanity
Do the voices in your head
Speak to the demons
Do they dance with the dead
Do they embrace you in bed
Do they devour your soul
When left unattended
And unfed
