free verse poem
I did love you.
Unconditionally,
with the sickening feeling of dependence
Unable to breathe unless you opened my nostril letting oxygen in,
Unable to function unless you told my feet which way to go,
my arms which way to fly, my lips what to whisper.
I surrendered my body to you and became your shadow,
Gave you my all,
…Oh little I knew,
Lived by the rule of Corinthians,
only to discover a lie
To you, my idea of love was not enough,
To me, your idea of loving was mediocre.
I did love you, I think, or
what designated definition would you give to the feeling of surrendering completely to another being,
without asking for anything in exchanged?
But one of the only treasures that selfish time gives us is wisdom,
I did love you,
accepted or not
But the ideology of love cannot have an “all universal” definition,
It is a concept built within the common parts,
As human are, is imperfect and sometimes more ephemeral than us.
My way of loving was not as it should be,
Not because I failed you, rather I was failing to myself
