Locked up in glass, I look up and long to touch that eternal sky......
In The Glass Palace

I live in this palace of glass.
Forbidden to step outside
as people fear, if I step into the outside world,
If I am enchanted by its breathtaking beauty,
I may leave and never come back.

I live in this palace of glass
Where even though forbidden,
I sometimes steal glances at the sky.
Sadly, when I reach out towards it I can't feel it,
not one bit.
The only thing I feel are those layers of glass
separating that infinite beauty and my touch.

I live in this palace of glass
Where I'm given everything I want,
every single thing.
If what I want is non-existent
they create it, make it exist.
The fruits of my utter imagination
those purely worthless things.

But the one thing I want the most,
is the one thing I can't have.
A feel of that eternal sky,
Those clouds in it that look so wet
those trees beyond the fence, so green
I want to feel the wind, the calm and wild nature's breath.
Wet my feet in the rivers beyond the grove,
And sing songs to the birds, who will hear my voice at last.

Why? Tell me why do they fear my escape so much.
Why can't they just let me go?
For once just set me free!
Let my wings open up after these innumerable decades
let them feel the sun on their black membrane
let them feel the heat, the dragon's flame.
Feel the perils of life afar
let me believe that life has power.

But they keep me near dead in this cage.

They know not the pain of the trapped
or the severe vengeance they seek.
Even trapped kittens grow fearsome
though by nature they are meek.

But I promise you I shall burn all these thoughts
That contaminate my mind and heart.
But I beg of you. Please let me free.
For at the moment, I feel like I will break
As not only me cage is transparent, strong yet fragile.
It feels
that my body
My heart
My mind and soul
are also made of glass....
