One gloomy, rainy, day I realized the rainy days made me appreciate the sunny ones more,
If we had summer everyday,
Would we miss the winter?
If sun shown warm upon the earth
Would night become our mistress?

If for every lad alive there was
only one true love
Would heads be turned by every lass,
To test if she’s the one?

If children grew from young to old
and never scrapped a knee
Would adventure win the daily grind
by seeking abnormality?

I wonder sometimes if this is why
when things are going well
I look and wait and listen close,
knowing what it foretells,

That as if by being very good
the opposite is true
If you never see the winter’s cold;
the spring will lose it’s due.

How can we tell what is the good,
if we never witness evil?
Like a desert dry without the rain,
Won’t know the flower's beauty.

I understand the dichotomy
of seasons without change
The boring rote of every day
being all the same.

So give me storms,
with thunder clapping
And waves upon the shore.
To mix among the sun lit days
So I love them all the more.
