The Beauty of Alone

She walked towards me
Tall willowy, with the grace
Of a summer’s breeze

Her breath kissed my face
the warmth of the sun
On a spring day.

I turned towards her
Willing the breeze
To continue her blessing

Pulling at my heart strings
I could hear each pulse a sound
as without a glance
She moved by me

I have seen Alone
Striding across the field
Flowers bending as she passed

Sun kissed and chased the shadows
Looking now, where she had been
Tendrils of light dancing
In her wake

I want to dance with her
Sleep in her arms
Croon a loving tune in her ear

She walks on towards the wood
Dark now brushing the dampness
Pulling down the clouds; a blanket

Heavy with dew
she continues her endless march
I want to catch her
and tell her to stop

She will be with friends
Warm in the dancing sun
My arms protective
Holding her as a child
Against my breast

But she is Alone
And must continue
The curse of love lost
Promises denied
Children grown
Towards the tomorrow
