serious sam is having a hard time fixing while dangling upside down from the tight rope.
you pushed the needle in my arm
and said i should relax.
i trembled as you spoke those words
and pulled the plunger back.

the red came leaking slowly out
to mix with dirty brown;
you grinned at me and said, "with this,
you'll never need a crown."

i closed my eyes and held my breath,
and then you said, "all done."
i looked around and blinked just twice,
and wondered if i'd won.

and then it came, a golden wave--
i knew i'd found my god.
i smacked my lips and dropped my head,
i fell into a nod.

we counted highs like candied corn--
our pleasure knew no bounds;
a sea of ev'rything that's sweet,
our sanctuary sound.

when all was swell, you'd take my hand;
we'd suckle at the teat.
i hoped that it would never end,
but rapture's bittersweet.

we walked thru fields of broken glass--
at night our master crooned;
you said we lived a velvet dream,
yet fed me from a spoon.

i found no meaning in our days--
we met death's hungry stare--
we bled out life like flowers spurned,
we simply were not there.

despite our shallow whims and ways,
we didn't mind the score.
the dope was good, but still:
we wanted less not more.

who hears the siren sing her song?
only i, and i am long gone
