A Shakespearean Sonnet
As serpents sing a song sent to deceive,
Iniquity and deviltry begin.
Beguiling melodies, we misconceive
This portrait of the origin of sin.

Propriety we use as our defense,
"We are the kings," the choir sings along.
The greater good that justifies intents
Allows the overlooking of our wrong.

Enabled by the fairness of our cause
The soul denies the awful cries it hears.
Society has given us the laws
To shade our eyes and cover up our ears.

How wondrous is the act of our confession
That balances the debt of such transgression.
