A poem about seeking to know someone intimately.
Naked Truth

There is someone I would like to get to know.
I want to spend some time going deeper,
Uncovering her,
Just to see if there is more to see than the show.

I see in her eyes the nagging question,
Nibbling mercilessly at some raw place in her heart.
Would anyone care?
Would anyone dare to come close if there was no show?

Maybe we like the masquerades and bonds of pretending,
Keeping us safe from the nakedness of bare truth.
I’m weary of them.
I’m ready for the pretending to be ending!

I can’t help but wonder who she really is
Beneath the corsets and costumes.
Curiosity draws me in.
Or maybe something deeper; an intense longing for realness?

When I think of the day of stripping to come,
I shudder in fear, but even more in anticipation,
In eagerness,
To see, at last, this person completely undone.

This is no strange, perverted need.
No lustful hunger to see her fully exposed.
quite the opposite,
It’s an ache to know her uninhibited.

There is someone I would like to get to know.
Even if no one else can bear the nakedness,
I want to risk it.
So when I stand before my King, stripped of everything,
I will recognize her,
The real me.
