For someone I once knew a long time ago
MVJ

Where did the summer go. Damn. It’s so dark.
I can just see the lights on your side of the park.
The light from your window. I stop for a while.
Another quick memory making me smile.
Remembering nights when the autumn drew down.
Walks to the chippy. The pub. Round the town.
With all the lights twinkling and sparkling. Like stars.
A kiss by the churchyard. These moments were ours.
Now you’re gone. Years moved on. Other boys. Other girls.
Making our separate ways in the world.
But sometimes up here in the places we walked.
Near the benches we sat just to cuddle and taIk.
I look for your house on your side of the park.
And the light from your window still shines through the dark.
