poem about loss and life.
I wish I knew you then,
before the years came,
came to take away
the glint
in your blue wise-man eyes,
before
the blight withered your branches,
time carved deep lines
into the curves of your face,
once-sturdy limbs turned to tired twigs
as the years took back
what they gave;
but I count your life rings
and remember.
