A young girl, full of guilt, and wants a new life.
Placing her key into the lock, she sighed as she turnt the key and let herself into her home, she hadn’t even stepped through the door, when her mum greeted her. ‘Alexis have you seen what’s been happening? There has been another murder.’ her mum claimed, ‘no mum I have just walked through the door...I am fine by the way.’ Alexis mumbled. She slid her shoes of, walked into the kitchen, and flipped the switch on the kettle to make herself a cup of tea. ‘Alexis I didn’t do dinner as I didn’t know what you would want, so I thought I’ll wait till you came in.’ her mum shouted through to the kitchen, and sat right back in the arm chair. ‘Mum would you like a couple of tea...I am just going to have a micro-wave meal for dinner. As there seems to be no food in the freezer.’ Alexis answered as the kettle boiled, she threw a teabag in the cup and poured the hot water in. ‘No I don’t want a tea, I have a drink already. Don’t worry about dinner for me I have had something round your sisters.’ Her mum answered, ‘Of course’ Alexis mumbled under her breath as she pierce the film lid of the potato and placed it in the microwave, she pressed the heat button and set it for six and half minutes. Walking into the living room her mum had a glass of coke next to her. ‘So what’s this about the murders?’ Alexis asked as she placed the cup on the table, and pick up her tobacco and papers to roll herself a cigarette. ‘Apparently, three more bodies were washed up this afternoon and all three had the blood drained...they think it’s some cult thing.’ Alexis nodded and intrigued by the murders. She put the cigarette to her mouth and lit it. Pulling on the first drag and inhaling deeply. ‘I need the toilet’ her mum mumbled, as she stood up she seemed to have lost her balance but re-gained it, Alexis caught this out of the corner of her eye, and her mum looked at her hoping that Alexis had not seen. As her mum walked up the stairs to the bathroom, she grabbed the glass of coke and smelt it. The glass of coke had a distinctive smell of coconuts, and she took a sip of it, ‘Malibu...’ Alexis whispered as she placed the cup back on the table and took another drag on her fag. Her mum came down the stairs and sat back in her armchair. The microwave pinged and Alexis stubbed out her cigarette, she got up and went to take her potato out of the microwave. She placed it on a plate and walked back into the living room. Her mum was staring at her phone texting. Half hour had past and both Alexis and her mum had not said a word to each other, sighing Alexis asked her mum, as she took a mouthful of tea,’ So what you been up to today then?’. ‘Not much, saw your sister, who is being kicked out of her flat apparently she hasn’t been paying the rent-‘ ‘no surprise there then’ Alexis interrupted, then turnt to her mum, ‘you haven’t given her any money have you?’ ‘No I have done enough favours for her.’ Her mum mumbled, but looked away from the eye contact with Alexis, ‘That’s good, she has had enough money out of you, I mean the money she stole of you to pay for her wedding, the money she stole of Uncle or considering to steal. She takes the piss.’ Alexis fustrately said. She turnt her head to the TV when she heard her mums phone vibrate. ‘Hello, hey Ann yeh sorry didn’t text you to say I got back safely. I was busy when I got in.’ her mum drank the rest of her coke and then got up from the sofa, and went to the stairs where she sat. Alexis shook her head in disgust at her sister. Alexis did not get along with her sister at all, ever since she had to deal with the police a year and half ago because she was arrested for stealing from work, and when she found out that she stole her disabled uncles debit card and stole just over seven grand. However, the best thing is she denied it even though all the evidence stacked up against her. Once again, her mother bailed her out and let her get away with it. Then her sister, Ann manipulated her mum into putting five grand into a ISA account in which only Ann had access too, and used her mums money without her mums permission to pay for her wedding to the out work bum. Anyhow, she listened closely to the conversation that her mum was having with her sister, ‘Yes I will give you the money, but this is the last time. I will have to speak to Sam tomorrow.’ She heard her mum sigh, and Charities rolled herself another cigarette. ‘Alright I will let you know tomorrow. Ok, bye.’ Her mum hung up and walked into the living room. She saw the look on Alexis face, ‘what she is my daughter and-‘but Alexis got up and walked into the kitchen. Ten minutes passed and her mum came into the kitchen, ‘I text your dad earlier today...he hasn’t text back yet.’ Her mum randomly said, Alexis could feel her blood boiling. This was her mums usual behaviour, she causes problems and arguments then a few minutes later, acts like nothing has happened. However, Alexis cannot act like that. Alexis sigh and continued with the washing up, ‘Did you hear what I said.’ Her mum getting frustrated, ‘Yes I did, and we have been through this time and time again. He won’t contact you he has been gone for two and half years, he is happy why don’t, you just leave him alone.’ Although she felt herself boiling over she kept calm and acted calm, she could see out of the corner of her eye that her mum did not like what she heard. ‘I just want to meet up and talk.’ Her mum innocently proclaims. Alexis had finished the washing up, poured the water out of the bowl, and dried her hands on the dishcloth. ‘I know but this happens every couple of weeks, you do well then you text or call him, he don’t reply then I have to deal with your drunkenness our bursts, the tears the suicidal threats. All I do is repeat myself, and then you get angry and upset, and then make me feel bad.’ Alexis answered and walked into the living room. ‘I know I know, but I know I can make him come back by just seeing him again, making him see that I have changed. ‘Her mum announced as she went to the drinks cabinet and grabbing a bottle of Malibu. ‘Mum drinking ain’t going to help the situation.’ Alexis claimed and as watched her mum pour the alcohol into her glass and topping it up with coke. ‘You have no idea what it feels like I was married to him for twenty five years, I loved him, I have lost my mum.’ Her mum knew that if she were to mention Alexis grandmother that Alexis would play nice, ‘I know mum I was there.’ ‘You may have lost Dan because he cheated on you but you don’t understand coz you weren’t with I’m as long as I was with your dad.’ Alexis rolled her eyes, and rolled another cigarette, ‘I know that mum but its time you moved on with your life as I am doing.’ ‘But I miss him, I want him.’ Her mum moaned, ‘I know but he is happy with this other women...why is it that you spend time with Ann and you always come back depressed and like this. Has she mentioned him today?’ Alexis asked, looking at her mother with curiosity, knowing the answer already. Her sister had a tendency that when her mum was against her and started a fight with her that she pulls on the water works and mention their dad, and then it was left to Alexis to pick up the pieces. It was the same when she was arrested from stealing from work, Alexis was at the cinema with her friends, and just before she went to go in, she got a phone call. From a police officer, saying that the police wanted to get into the property and search it for stolen goods, and if Alexis did get back to the house within an hour they were going to smash down the door. Worried and upset Alexis called her father to meet her at the house, where two police officers greeted them. Three hours later and twenty something boxes later the police left. The next day Ann and her mum came down from London (where both of them worked at the time) and Alexis and her father waited at the house to find out what was going on. When Ann arrived she didn’t apologise or nothing. Her father went home and Alexis was left to deal with the tears and the sympathy from her mother to Ann, Alexis later found out that the reason why she stole of the stuff from her work place, was because her father had left even those this was a year after her father had left. ‘She said she had a text from your dad, just saying that his fine and is moving.’ Her mum answered knocking back the drink. It was about half past ten and Alexis was shattered and even though she had no work in the morning she wanted to go to bed, but she knew she couldn’t leave her mum up in this state drinking herself stupid. Pouring herself a glass of coke Alexis watched her mother grab a bottle of beer from underneath the stairs. ‘I miss her so much,’ her mum mumbled as she took a mouthful of beer, ‘I know mum.’ Alexis answered when her grandmother was brought up she felt sick to the pits of her soul. ‘But If I had a choice of who I would want back it would be your dad.’ Alexis got up and went to grabbed a bottle of beer from underneath the stairs. ‘and that is where you went wrong mother, Nan gave up on life when you told her you no longer cared about her...’ Alexis hated to be mean to her mum but sometimes it was necessary. Her mum needs to learn that she was not the self-less human that she says she is, her mother saw red, ‘How dare you?...’ Alexis chuckled, ‘You didn’t know that I knew that did you?’ Her mum stood up only to stumble down again, ‘You evil sadistic whore...i love my mum-‘ ‘Yeh you may of but at the time you cared to much about you and your pathetic husband that you didn’t even notice that nan was starving to death. Because you nor Ann took the time to talk about what she wanted instead, Nan would listen non stop to you and Ann’s problems and not once did you ask how she was. You murder nan, not me!’ This time her mum got up and stumbled over to where Alexis was sitting, ‘You did, you called it...’ Her mum raged and went to slap her, Alexis just stood and watched her mum make a fool of herself. Alexis chuckled and knocked back her beer in one, and placed the empty bottle on the floor, her mum bent down and picked up the bottle and went to swing for Alexis with the bottle firmly in her hand, ‘I don’t think so...’ Alexis said grabbing the bottle out of her hand and threw the bottle against the wall, leaving a a hole where the bottle impacted the wall. Deep down Alexis knew it was her fault knew that her grandmother died because of her, she should never of gone to university and she should never have called it, it wasn’t her place. Nevertheless, Alexis also knows that if her mother had to make a choice between her daughters and her father coming home she would always pick her father. Her mum returned to wear she was seating and she was shaking, shaking with fear, ‘You-you are the devil.’ Her mum mumbled over and over again. Alexis stared at her mother, ‘Mum you ok?’ as she watched her mum knocked back the bottle of beer in seconds. ‘No-no I don’t feel too good...I feel sick.’ Alexis watched her mum to see if her mum was being serious. Watching carefully she realised her mum was not joking, her face turning pale, the sweat dripping of her forehead, ‘I will get you a bucket and a glass of water, and then I will put you to bed.’ Alexis got up, went to the kitchen, and grabbed the bowl out of the sink and a bottle of water out the fridge. ‘Here have a mouthful.’ Her mum did not look good, ‘are you still taking the anti-depressants?’ she asked her mum, and her mum nodded the sweat dripping of her face. Her mum took a mouthful of water. ‘Alex I want to go to bed.’ Alexis smiled and grabbed the bowl from her, her mum tried to stand up but couldn’t, she felt her legs were like jelly. Alexis placed the bowl and the bottle of water on the floor and helped her mum out of the chair and up stairs to bed. ‘I love you Alex.’ Her mum mumbled as she feels into a deep sleep. Alexis walked down the stairs and grabbed the bowl and water and took it upstairs to her mother’s room, ‘Mum here is the bowl I have put it beside the bed and the bottle of water is on the side cabinet.’ Her mum was fast asleep, she was breathing heavy so she knew she was fine. Not sure what to do and worried about her mother, Alexis, sat down stairs and rolled herself a cigarette. She looked at her phone no messages no phone. It was times like this that she was still with her fiancĂ© Dan, she would have normally sent him a text or ring him and let off steam, but now she could not as they were no longer together. She sighed and took a drag on her cigarette, and kept a close eye on her mother.
Alexis turnt over to her phone and checked the time, six thirty. Sighing heavily she got up and poked her head in to her mother’s room, the bucket was full and the water bottle empty, shaking of the little sleep she got the night before she heading downstairs, and filled the kettle up with water. Alexis felt like shit, she sat drinking her coffee, and puffing on her cigarette. She looked out of the window and watched the night disappear and turn into day. She was thinking about her grandmother and Dan, a single tear fell from her face onto her cardigan, she sniffed and watched the sky turn. A swarm of grey clouds swamp the sky, her tears fell harder and faster and the clouds rolled in faster, there was a grumble outside. The sky had turnt black and the sky opened up and it started to rain, she could hear the rain blasting against the window. There was something tranquil about the rain, the tears faded and Alexis started to gain control of her emotions. ‘Well this ain’t going to do anyone much good.’ She mumbled to herself, and drank her coffee and got up from the chair. Leaving her steaming coffee on the table to cool. Walking up the stairs she ran herself a shower turning the knob so the water was steaming hot she stepped in. Feeling the water trickle over her body, feeling so refreshed she sighed as she turnt of the shower and grabbed a towel that was hanging on the back of the door. She wrapped one round her head and the other around her body; she walked into her bedroom and grabbed her clothes that were on the hanger. Tying her hair back she wonder down stairs and started to tidy up the mess.
Alexis sat down at ten thirty in the morning, when she heard her mum in the bathroom. ‘Here we go again...’ Alexis sighed and got up to put the kettle on for her mother to make her a couple of tea. ‘Morning Alexis, is that teat for me?’ as she walked into the living room and saw the tea on the table, ‘I’m just making you one.’ Alexis answered as the kettle boiled she poured the water over a teabag. She walked in holding the cup of tea in her hand and smiled at her mother. ‘I’m going to London today, to see my brother.’ Alexis looked at her as she handed her the cup of tea, ‘You’re going to ask him for the money aren’t you?’ Alexis asked knowing that this is what she is going to do without a answer from her mother. ‘Yeh of course you are...’ Alexis continued, ‘I don’t think you should drive, after last night the alcohol will still be in your system. It is dangerous.’ Alexis protested, as she sat down and rolled herself a cigarette. ‘I’m not driving Ann and Trev are picking me up and taking me to him.’ Alexis nodded coz she knew this would happen, ‘So when are they planning on picking you up?’ Alexis asked so she can make herself scarce. ‘About now.’ Her mum answered, as she stood up she saw a metallic blue Peugeot pull up outside. ‘Be nice, be nice...sod it...I will be on the phone. Let me know when u have gone.’ Alexis stood and took her phone fags and tea outside. Flipping through her phone book, she saw her dads name pop up, she thought for a second about ringing him. ‘I don’t think so.’ She continued to flick through and her phone started to vibrate, ‘Eliza.’ She smiled, ‘thank you thank you thank you...your getting good at this ringing at the right time thing.’ ‘Well that’s nice.’ Eliza answered, ‘And hello to you too.’ Alexis smiled and looked through the French doors and saw Ann went up to her mum and hugged her as did Trev, she heard muffle noises, ‘alright mum.’ She heard Trev say, it sent chills down Alexis spine hearing him use those words. Watching like an outsider, watching her family use each other. ‘Lexi...Lexi you still there’ Eliza asked Alexis heard the worry in Eliza voice, ‘Sorry I’m here. It’s just been one of those nights/days/years type things.’ Alexis mumbled, and slowly walked up her garden path up to the back of the garden. The less she saw the better. ‘So what’s happened now?’ Eliza asked sounding concerned. ‘The usual, me being a mug. Putting Mother to bed, and Ann borrowing money of uncle again.’ Alexis answered rolling a cigarette whilst balancing the phone under her ear. ‘Why don’t you just leave, you can do so much better than them. They treat you like shit, yet you always there. They need to learn that they can’t treat you like that.’ Eliza explained, Alexis smiled as she brought the cigarette up to her mouth and lit it. ‘I know, anyway enough about me, what’s you with you?’Alexis was always quick to change the subject when it got to tense. ‘Actually I was ringing to see if I can come and stay with you for a little while.’ Alexis grinned with excitement, ‘You know it is...why what’s happened?’ Alexis asked knowing that when Eliza wants to run away somewhere something had always happened. ‘I will explain when I see’, ‘One second they are just going out...Ok see you later!’ she shouted, and she heard Lexi say ouch down the phone. ‘Sorry about that...so when do you think you’ll be down?’ Alexis asked puffing on the last little bit of her cigarette, ‘About twenty minutes...Can you come and pick me up from the station?’ Alexis giggled, ‘Well it’ s lucky that I said yes then? Of course, I will leave now.’ ‘That’s great, can’t wait to see you. Ok dokey, bye love ya.’ Eliza said and the line went dead. Alexis laughed as she threw the cigarette to the floor and went into the house.
Alexis sat in the driver’s seat of her car waiting outside the front of Bexhill train station, waiting for Eliza to arrive. She had received a text ten minutes ago saying that the train was running late so Alexis was sat waiting. Whilst she was waiting she was listening to the radio, ‘Breaking news the three bodies that were found yesterday morning washed up on the beach had been drained of their blood, the police have told us. The police are now looking to the public for any information regarding strange and unusual behaviour by individuals or any information on groups of individuals that have been acting suspiciously. I am Sam Dinchester from BBC news Sussex.’ Alexis shooked her head in disgust, and turnt her attention to a group of boys that were congregating outside the church opposite the station. ‘Well, that’s ironic...’she mumbled to herself as she waited for Eliza. Fixated with the boys across the round, Alexis didn’t notice that her friend had arrived, so when there was a tap on the window it made her jump right out her skin. ‘Lexi...’ Eliza announced, Alexis smiled and got out of the car and gave her friend a hug. ‘it is good to see you Eliza. Here let me put your bags in the boot and we can get going...go on climb in.’ Alexis answered as she opened the boot of her car and lifted the suitcase in. ‘Blimey Eliza how much did you bring!’ Alexis sarcastically asked. ‘Not much’ Eliza claimed and the boot slammed shut and Alexis climbed back into the car. Pulling her seat belt round she stuck the car in reverse and slowly pulled out of the station. Alexis did not live far from the station so the car journey wasn’t that long. ‘That was quick’ Eliza proclaimed, Alexis smiled as she pulled the handbrake on and unbuckled her belt. Both Eliza and Alexis went to the back of the car and opened the boot, Eliza grabbed her suitcase and started to walk up the drive to Alexis home. ‘Quite a nice place you have here...’ Eliza commented, this was the first time in six years that Eliza had visited in Bexhill. The main reason was because of Alexis mum, Eliza could not stand how Lilith, Alexis mum, treats her daughter and therefore would rather not be in company. ‘You ain’t seen inside yet....’ Alexis got to the front door and placed her key in the lock and the opened the door, ‘Make yourself at home...’Alexis said as she threw her handbag to the floor and slip her shoes of. ‘I could murder a cup of coffee...’Eliza asked as she placed her bags in the hall out of the way. ‘Of course, now are you going to tell me why your here...not that I’m not please to see you but you don’t come down here often...actually you have never been down here.’ Alexis announced as she put the kettle on and got two mugs out of the cupboard and placed coffee and sugar into the cups. Eliza looked down to her feet and walked into the living room. A few minutes later Alexis walked in with two steaming cups of coffee, ‘Well, you going to tell me or are you just going to seat there and let me guess?’ Alexis asked with curiosity, although she thought deep down that it was going to be a about a petty quarrel she had with her mother, so it was a shock when Eliza finally answered, ‘I’m Pregnant.’ And she then took a large swig of coffee, Alexis sprayed a mouthful of coffee all over the floor when she heard. Alexis started coughing, ‘I-m.....Sorry...’ She managed to finally say, ‘How?...’ watching the confuse looked on Eliza face, ‘No I mean I know how obviously but I mean, who’s the father?...I didn’t know you were even seeing someone.’ Alexis asked with great confusion, she saw the look in Eliza eyes and quickly asked, ‘You weren’t raped was you?’ with a great delicacy. Eliza smiled and shook her head, ‘No I wasn’t. I was drunk he was drunk and we both happened to be lonely and it went from there.’ Alexis sigh and put her cup down and sat next to her friend, ‘Come here’ and hugged her. They sat there for a little while and then Eliza said, ‘I know I have always said that If I got pregnant, I would have an abortion....but I can’t.’ Alexis picked her coffee cup up and took a mouthful of coffee, ‘How far gone are you?’ Eliza looked up into her friends eyes, ‘six month’s its too late for an abortion but even if I wasn’t I wouldn’t have one.’ Alexis felt her heart sank, she knew that Eliza always said that she would have an abortion if she was unable to support a child. Yet here she was saying that even if she could she wouldn’t have one. ‘Its ok we will get through this together.’ Alexis smiled and hugged her friend.
‘Alexis we are back!....have you put dinner on. If so I don’t want any.’ Her mum called out as she walked in through the door with Ann and Trev in close pursuit. ‘Oh hi....Eliza...erm...where’s Alexis?’ Her mum asked in shock that Eliza was sitting there cupping a hot coffee. ‘Hi she is just upstairs.’ Her mum nodded and crept up stairs, to where she found Alexis getting changed. ‘Alex why is Eliza here?’ Alexis turnt round and half smiled, ‘She needed to get away and needed some support she is going through a rough time...’ Her mum raised her eyebrows, ‘Well it’s a shame you can’t be there for me like you are for her?’ Alexis shrugged, ‘Anyway I don’t need a dinner. We ate with Sam.’ Alexis sighed and look at her mother, ‘What was it Sam’s treat?’ she sarcastically answered slipping on a pair of pumps. ‘Yeh it was actually why?..it has nothing to do with you what my brother does with his money. I’m his carer not you...’ her mum angrily announced and stormed out of the room. ‘Mum we are going out for dinner anyway...’ Alexis argued and walked past her mum who was standing on the stairs. ‘Eliza are you ready to go?’ Alexis announced as she grabbed her bag from the floor, ‘Yep definitely.’ Eliza stood up and smiled to Ann and Trev. ‘That was awkward, is it always like that in your place?’ Eliza whispered as they left the house. Alexis nodded, ‘Yep, im an outsider in my own home.’ As they walked down town, Eliza saw a psychic shop, who did tarot reading and palm readings. ‘Come one it be fun...’ Eliza announced and grabbed hold of Alexis arm and pulled her into the shop. Alexis didn’t even have time to protest. As they pushed the door open the shop was dark and Eliza let go of Alexis arm, ‘Hello we would like a reading....’ Eliza shouted out. It was dark and quite spine chilling. ‘I think we should go.’ Alexis mentioned but at that moment a middle aged women stepped out of the back of the shop, ‘My children come please.’
‘May I have your hand...’ the women had a calming and tranquil voice, and Eliza gave her hands to the women. ‘Please child don’t be nervous.’ The women said as she took Eliza’s hand into hers. ‘Your expecting, six month’s have gone by...your apprehensive...there is no need this child will be loved and you will be happy....Once the child is here you will meet a man of great fortune who will make you truly happy...’ Eliza smiled and looked to Alexis, Alexis smiled as she was happy that Eliza was happy, even though deep down Alexis was not a believer. ‘That’s all I can get for this time...’ the women pulled away and sighed, ‘You are a non-believer.’ The women turnt to Alexis and eyed her up with suspicion, ‘You would be correct, Eliza can we go now....I’m hungry.’ Alexis answered and went to get up and Eliza pulled on her top, ‘No it’s your turn...I have paid for both of us to have a reading...’Eliza could see the uncertainty in Alexis eyes. ‘Pleaseeeee...’ Eliza begged, Alexis sigh made herself comfortable in the chair. She held her hands out without no enthusiasm, ‘Come on then.’ Alexis demanded and the women took her hands in to hers. But this time the women’s eye went pure white, Alexis looked at Eliza who in return looked at the women and shrugged. ‘Your aura...your aura is so powerful. I’m getting something...you have be re-born...oh no-no !!!’ the women screamed out in pain, making Eliza and Alexis jumped, Alexis pulled her hands back and placed them in her lap. The women’s eyes started to return to the normal hazel colour. ‘Ok we are off.’ Alexis announced and stood up from the chair, ‘Come on Eliza we are going.’ Eliza got up as did the women who was the psychic. ‘Wait...’the women argued, she got up and grabbed a dagger that was on a side cabinet, Alexis saw her grabbed the dagger, ‘Wow...we have paid you and now we are leaving...no need for that.’ Alexis claimed as she allowed Eliza to go first to leave the building, ‘You must die...you will bring the apocalypse.’ The women dived across the table towards Alexis, ‘Eliz MOVE!’ Alexis roared as they both staggered out of the shop. The door closed behind them and they saw the women frustrated, as she couldn’t leave the door won’t open. ‘Come on we need to go.’ Eliza said pulling on Alexis’s arm. ‘It is fine she was probably just trying to scare me coz I’m a non believer...lets go and get some food I’m starving and I need a beer.’ Alexis put her arm around Eliza and they walked slowly to the Trade and Black pub that overlooked the sea.
‘Just forget it ever happened Eliz-‘Alexis began to say, when a handsome dark hair man walked up to the table. Alexis did not like the look of him, he was shifty almost evil. He had dark eyes almost black and was eyeing up Eliza. Alexis noticed that he had been eyeing Eliza all night, and it seemed he finally had the bottle to come over and talk to her. He wore a black shirt and dark jeans. ‘Hi...’he announced as he knelt down by the table where they were sitting. Eliza eyes almost popped out of her head when she saw he was talking to her and not her friend. She managed to pull a little smile, ‘Can I get you a drink?’ he offered, Alexis watched Eliza get all girly at the thought of being chatted up by a handsome stranger. Alexis shook her head, knowing that with everything going on it wasn’t the best idea for Eliza to be taking drinks of strangers. ‘Yes please...coke.’ He nodded and left, Alexis watched him go over to the bar, ‘I don’t have a good feeling about him Eliz...we should go.’ Alexis watched out of the corner of her eye, this stranger had received the coke and turnt to come to the table. ‘Thanks...’ Eliza nodded, smiling excitedly. Alexis did not like this one little bit. ‘Don’t you want to go for a fag?’ Eliza asked Alexis, trying to get rid of her friend, ‘No I’m fine’. ‘I will be alright erm....’ ‘Ash’ the main spoke with great masculinity. ‘Ash will keep me company.’ He smiled, but as he did Alexis did not feel to good about the situation. ‘Fine, I will be just outside...’ Alexis smiled, ‘Don’t get yourself in any trouble now...’ Ash spoke, and watched her leave. As Alexis, left she heard the beginning of the conversation, ‘She is just looking after me...however she can be over protective at times. But she is great.’ Eliza started chuckling to herself; Alexis smiled as she entered the cold night air. She had a pre-rolled cigarette and grabbed the lighter out of her pocket; she tried sparking up her cigarette only to have it not work. ‘For fuck sake!’ she grumbled, there was not any one she could ask for a lighter. ‘What doesn’t anyone smoke anymore?’ she said to herself and went to go inside to find someone who had a light. But as she turnt round she walked into what she thought was a brick wall. ‘Oh...sorry.’ she admitted quietly. The brick wall was not a brick wall but a man, a man that was huge. ‘Do you normally talk to yourself?’, His voice was rough with a slight accent, foreign but ever so lightly. He wore a white t-shirt underneath a black shirt, wearing baggy boot length jeans and biker boots that had the jeans tucked in. A black rope like material dangles underneath his shirt. She looked deep into his grey eyes; his face was so perfect, like he had been made rather than born. He was perfect. ‘Erm...sorry. Just my lighter is not working. Sorry... Again for walking into you...excuse me.’ She said as she went to walk past him, then in his hand lighter, silver Zippo. ‘A light?’ he flipped the catch and the flame burnt green, Alexis looked weary at it, ‘magic...’ he said seeing her confusion, ‘Yeh right...’ Alexis replied and lent forward to light the cigarette that was still hanging out of her mouth. ‘Thanks...’she said as the pub doors opened and Eliza and ash came strolling out. ‘Hey everything ok?’ Alexis asked, looking at Ash with suspicion. ‘Ash, are you not going to introduce me....’ The man asked that had given Alexis the light. Ash looked at Eliza and Alexis, ‘Your friends with Ace?’ Alexis looked at Ace and smiled, ‘My lighter wouldn’t spark that’s all.’ Ace sternly looked at Ash, ‘And so this beautiful lady is your friend?’ Alexis nodded.’ Well now introductions are other, Ace can I have a fag?’
‘Eliza, come we best go I have work tomorrow?’ Alexis mentioned to Eliza who was to be gazing at her new friend Ash, Ace who was just seating back eyeing up Alexis. ‘Oh crap yeh I forgot....Ash it was nice to meet you.’ Eliza innocently said as she stood up from the table, ‘Back at ya, Maybe we can do it again.’ Alexis looked at Eliza then at Ace who seemed to be preoccupied with his pint of beer. ‘Ok bye then...’ Alexis said and started to make a dash towards the door, with Ash and Eliza closely behind. ‘Bye.’ Eliza said and Ash smirked and went into kiss Eliza, she leant forward and had to go on her toes to kiss him, ‘Oh come on....’ As Alexis went to turn away, Ace was standing there, ‘leaving without saying good bye’. ‘Yeh something like that’ she continued to walk, Ash and Eliza were now coupled in each others. ‘Hey why don’t I give you both a lift?’ Ace asked staring at Alexis, ‘No we are fine...’ she looked back at Eliza and Ash in a loving embrace, ‘Fine...if it means I can drag her away from him faster.’ ‘it’s this way...’Ace announced, Alexis wasn’t in the best of moods as her night with her friend turned out to be her friend pulling a new guy. A silver range rover was parked in the car park near the De La Warr Pavilion. Ash and Eliza sat in the back seat whist Alexis sat in the front. ‘Your quite quiet, unlike your friend?’ Ace began to ask as he put the key in the ignition and put the car in first gear. ‘Yeh well I tend to look out for my friends...’ She smugly said and looked out of the window as he drove out of the car park, ‘always thinking of others before yourself...’ Ace sarcastically said as he put the car in to second gear and went round the roundabout. Alexis just smiled. Ten minutes had passed and they turned up at Alexis home, ‘Well thank you....Eliza come one.’ Alexis got out of the car and followed by Eliza. The electric window rolled down as the two girls went to make it up the drive-way, ‘Alexis if you need...or...well want....’ Alexis giggled, ‘No thank you im good....’ Ash had got out the car at that point and with a very confused look on his face. His head bounced back and forward from Ace to Alexis. She turnt and the two girls walked into the house. ‘I think Ace likes you....’ Eliza announced as they walked through the door, but the second they closed the door her mum was standing in the hallway, swaying with a bottle of vodka in her hand. ‘Mum, you been drinking again.’ Her mum laughed, ‘Yes I have and what are you going to do about it? Who the hell were them men? With everything going on in this world you two are frolicking with two strange men....did you sleep with them!!!’ her mum roared, throwing the bottle at Alexis head, who anticipated this was going to happen and grabbed the bottle in mid flight. ‘What the....’ Her mum argued and walked wobbly of to the two girls. ‘You’re a whore...’ he mum whispered and went to walk up the stairs. ‘Mum let me help you....’ Alexis took her mum by the side and led her up stairs. As Alexis put her mum into bed, she stared at her daughter, ‘Your w whore, the devil...Ann warned me about you...’ her mum argued and as Alexis put her mum into bed, her mum grabbed the clock that sat on the bedside cabinet, and swung it at her head. Knocking her down, ‘leave me....’her mum mumbled and slowly went into a deep sleep. Alexis walked into the bathroom and saw a three inch cut along the side of her eye. Eliza heard the noise and climbed the stairs, whispering ‘Lexi you ok?’ she gently knocked on the door of the bathroom and saw Alexis tending to her wound. ‘Shit Lexi...is this what she done...’Eliza took the flannel out of her hand and began to bath her friends cut. ‘I am fine honest...go on you go to bed I will sort this out.’ Alexis answered taking the flannel out of her hand. ‘You shouldn’t have to deal with this shit...your mum needs help.’ Eliza said and walked out of the room.
Laying in bed that night she thought of Ace, but not in a romantic way she just cant get his words out of her heard. She hardly spoke to him that night, yet he seemed to be able to read her like a book. His hair was a almost a shoulder length hair dark blonde, his eyes which were not of normal colour were grey almost mystical. Being over six foot tall and stood like a brick wall, he was a monster but yet she still found herself thinking of him and what he said. She felt the blood seeping out of her wound. Her head began to ache and she fell in to a comatose state.
‘Lexi...wake up....LEXI!’ Eliza was shaking Alexis ferociously, Alexis just turned and moaned, Eliza smiled and walked down stairs, she grabbed Alexis diary and found her works number she grabbed the phone from the hook and dialled in the number. ‘hi, I am a friend of Alexis, she wont be in for few days, she had a accident last night and is unable to come in....no its nothing serious just its a head injury so I think it be best that she stays home for a while just so we can keep an eye on it...ok then... I will do...bye.’ Putting the phone back on the hook, Alexis slowly walked down the stairs, looking a bit worse for the wear. ‘Morning you’re up early?’ Alexis said to Eliza, as Eliza normally just stays in bed until late and goes abed late. ‘You’re not going to work today...i have rang them and they understand.’ Alexis face changed and she angrily asked, ‘why would you do that?’ she asked going into the kitchen and put the kettle on, ‘Because you have had a serious head injury and we need to take you to the doctor to get it looked at...’, ‘No its fine.’ She answered and went to grab her cigarettes and rolled one. ‘Lexi, how many times has that happened...’ Lexi smirked, and went outside into the garden. Eliza followed she weren’t going to let this drop, ‘Its fine It’s a scratch.’ ‘A scratch, its looks like you walked into a bloody door and the door won.’ Eliza said worryingly, she looked at her friend. ‘Why do you stay here with her? She treats you like shit, I have seen it and look what its doing to you?’ grabbing Alexis arms pulling her arm away from Eliza, ‘Its fine...’ ‘no its not look they are not the scars of someone who is fine....’ ‘Just leave me alone...think about you and your baby.’ Alexis said stubbing out the fag and walking back into the house and grabbing her bag, car keys and cigarettes she climbed into her car, ‘Lexi come back!’ Eliza roared, Alexis looked at her friend and revved the engine and reversed out of her road.
Later that evening she returned to find her mum standing at the kitchen door ‘where the hell have you been? I have been worried. Eliza said you stormed of this morning...hold on have you had a car accident?’, looking at her daughters face, which had a huge gash over her eye and her left eye, black and blue. ‘No mum I haven’t.’ Alexis announced as she walked through the living room. ‘Where’s Eliza?’ Alexis asked as she sat down, and watched her mum carefully ‘You went and saw him didn’t you?’, ‘Who mum?’, ‘Who do you think? You went and saw your dad.....’ Alexis shook her head and couldn’t believe what her mum was saying to her, ‘No I didn’t....’. ‘You’re lying...what did he say did he ask about me/ did you tell him I want to meet?’ her mum started to throw questions at her, she would not mind but she didn’t even know the answers. ‘I don’t know mum I haven’t spoken to him in weeks. Now where is Eliza?’. ‘Upstairs...’ Alexis walked up stairs, ‘I’m sorry about this morning I didn’t mean to go off like that. I have to deal with so much in my life that I can’t be dealing with you shouting the odds as well. Eliza smiled, and went up and hugged her, ‘I’m sorry...’.
As Alexis left work she walked to where her car was parked, digging for her keys, she saw Eliza walking towards her, ‘What are you doing here?’ Alexis asked with curiosity, she was suppose to be meeting Eliza at home, ‘your mum was driving me mad, telling me your the devil and what not, so I thought I will come and meet and we can grab a coffee at that Italian restaurant along the sea front?’ Eliza asked, knowing that Alexis is always up for going out rather then staying in with her mother. ‘Ok let me move the car to the car park closer to the restaurant. Get in.’ Alexis announced and unlocked the car. Eliza climbed in the passenger seat and Alexis, put the car in to first and drove to the car park. Eliza went and got a ticket, and Alexis saw Ash walk into the restaurant, as Eliza walked to the car, Alexis was giggling. ‘When were you going to tell me that I was going to be the third wheel?’ Embarrassed Eliza went to her friend and went down on her knees, ‘I’m sorry, I didn’t want u to feel left out so I said you wanted to come to Ash, besides do you really want to be at home with your mum alone...’ Alexis knew her friend was right so she pulled Eliza up from the floor, ‘Come on then...’ They said as they walked across the road into the restaurant.
Ash was sitting at the table closest to the window, as Eliza and Alexis approached he stood up, like a true gentlemen, Alexis thought to herself. ‘I hope you don’t mind I have order three of their best Italian coffee’s’ he answered, and sat back down at the same time the girls did. The waiter in a smart black and white three piece, brought over the coffees, and placed them on the table. He smiled and went back behind the counter. Feeling like a third wheel, Alexis grabbed her bag and her sketch book, ‘Im going to sit outside, it’s a nice day and I can leave you to it...’ she mumbled as she glimpsed at Eliza and Ash giggling and chatting. Sitting outside on a table with an ashtray, she made herself a fag and watched the world go by. The world that never notices her. She put her sketch book on the table, when a hand leant over and grabbed, ‘Hey...’ she said but as she followed the arm up from the sketchbook she was meet by the gaze of Ash he’s grey eyes, swimming with thoughts. ‘Oh it’s you...Can I have my sketch book back please.’ He chuckled but ignored her, ‘Are you deaf as well as an arrogant bastard...’ ‘Wow...’he said smiling, ‘That’s some very naughty words coming from a very nice girl.’ He said as he flicked through the sketches. Then he stopped at a sketch, and stared at it for more than necessary, ‘Hello, my book please!’ she said in a much firmer tone, ‘These are amazing.’ Alexis rolled her eyes and snatched the book out of his hands, ‘Flattery won’t get you anywhere’ she smirked and put the sketchbook in her bag. She sat in silence sipping her coffee and smoking her cigarette, ‘you don’t talk much...’ Ace mentioned breaking the silence, she sighed, ‘I have nothing to say.’ She replied, looking at him. ‘A woman like you always has something to say.’ She chuckled, ‘is that a smile I see...it is...wow I manage to make you smile.’ She shook her head, ‘so are you going to tell me a bit about yourself?’ he asked sneaking a fag into his mouth as she stubbed hers out. ‘Nope.’ He laughed, ‘well let’s start with how you got that cut on your head?’ she looked at him, she had her work hair on so she was unable to hide it, ‘I am clumsy...I had a fight with the door and the door won.’ He laughed and mentioned, ‘well maybe I should sort the door out...’ she smiled and shook her head. ‘You’re lying....’ he said in a dark tensed voice, at this comment Alexis went all tensed and wasn’t sure what to do but Ace continued in a more jokingly way ‘although you are sweet an innocent, you are a tough cookie to crack...’ She looked at him and laughed, ‘Cookie...please I am more of custard cream...’ they both tried to hold back the laughter, but it was no good they burst out laughing. ‘I’m going for a walk...’ he stood up and started to get himself ready to leave, confused Alexis just watched him slowly walk away, ‘Well you coming....’ Alexis looked into the restaurant, ‘Yeh.’ She grabbed her bag and quickly caught up with Ace who was now crossing the road heading towards the beach.
She was a few steps behind him when he stopped and jumped over the railing to the beach. He leapt over the railings, clearing them. Alexis climbed over the railings and followed him down to the sea. Alexis watched as Ace sat two foot away from the waves, she thought to herself, what the hell am I doing there’s all this murders going on and I’m with a man on a deserted beach and I know nothing about him. Her head was telling her to go back to the restaurant but her heart was telling her to stay. She got closer and stood next to him, ‘Are you going to seat down, I’m not going to bite.’ What a great choice of words, she thought to herself, ‘I don’t want to get wet...’ she answered then she realised what she said as Ace chuckled, ‘Not in that way...no I mean’ he looked up at her, and she sat embarrassingly down, she sat about a foot away from him, she thought that this was an ok distance. She kept her phone in her hand in case she needed to ring for help. ‘I’m not going to hurt you, you can put your phone away..’ he said as he looked at her hand which held the phone tightly. She smiled but was adamant about putting her phone in her bag. ‘So...’ she began to say, ‘What’s your story?’ she asked, she heard him sigh, and could tell he don’t like to talk about himself. ‘haven’t really got one...’ he answered then quickly asked, ‘I want to know about you....i get this vibe about you...and I don’t know what it is’ he admitted, Alexis thought this to be strange, ‘A vibe...’ she questioned. ‘let’s say I’m good at reading people...’ he admitted, ‘No you’re not....’she laughed but he wasn’t laughing. He looked to her wrists and saw the scars. ‘So I take it those scars you got from having a fight with a bush or a tree then...’ he smugly said, she smiled, ‘yeh something like that...’ she replied. ‘You don’t like yourself very much do you?’ he asked watching her flinch at that question, ‘Why would you ask a question like that?’ she managed to reply. ‘Scars on your wrist, self harm, and I’m guessing you have tried to commit suicide and a few occasions...’ he answered turning his head to the sea, trying to imagine what it must be like to be her. ‘I am not scared of death I welcoming it. I believe that it is the individual’s choice when and how they should die...’ she answered getting uptight at this man who thinks he knows all life’s problems. ‘Yeh I believe that too but when you want to die because of others failures, then I don’t agree with it..’ he answered, she smirked, and looked at him, ‘death is a choice, just like living.’ She answered he turnt to her, ‘Your eyes tell me the whole story you know. Just by looking at you I know that you have suffered, your father using and manipulating you into keeping his secret, your mum and your sister punishing you for something you should not of had to deal with. Then there s the whole story of your mum and your father and you feeling like you owe your mother a great deal but in fact, you owe her nothing. You take her abuse and you’re the one that feels like it’s your fault....Newsflash Lexi, your mum was a bitch, your father just gave in to temptation, your ex was a pure moron, and your sister was the true devil.’ Turning to Ace confused, ‘How....’ she began to ask, ‘Like I said your eyes tell a different story.’
