Dreams are powerful. Some hold on longer than others.
I dreamt a dream of you last night,
I watched you walk along a field of grass and light.
In your arms you held our son,
you walked among all of our loved ones.
I stood above on a balcony high,
as a sea of tears streamed from my eyes.
For next to me a shadow stood,
no light penetrated under her darkened hood.
She had shown only patience as she watched me run,
for we both knew my time had come.
I could run no more, there was no escape,
so I stood and wept for my sealed fate.
I cried for the years I would never know,
I cried for my child I would not see grown.
For all the love I knew I would miss,
and for your lips and a final kiss.
I watched you walk as day turned to night,
and in that summer dusk, knew you would be my last sight.
So I watched you till I could see no more,
and darkness rolled in from the eastern shore.

I took a deep breath,
    and prepared to be taken,
then closed my eyes to awaken.
