A personification poem of the one we all leave behind. Edited by Jordan Claar.
Darkness crawled across the floor
It spread to the kitchen door
Creeping by, ready to soar
Soar unto the bright night sky
Go, oh shadow, dark and sly
Forbidden to enjoy the sky so high
Chained to its master
Never going ever faster
Only appearing when hiding
The blackness followed
The carpet it swallowed
The master it obeyed
The shadow, ever delighted
Entered the room, so very excited
The dark hall, so empty
The man before him
Climbed the stairs of grey trim
It kept it's distance
The light an instance
Of it's containment
The quiet home, still so soon
Illuminated only by the moon
Passion burned withing the dark shadow
To rise from his prison of shallow
Nevermore was he content
With being a forgotten gent
And now he would repent
Down the stairs, through the hall and out the door he went
Headed away from the dark
Ignoring it's wisdom, not willing to hark
Fast it traveled, reaching the light
Where he planned to take its flight
Its hopeful destination
That would bring him restoration
Yet greeted with devastation
The blinding light sucked it in
Showing the shadow an awful grin
And in a second the shadow was gone
The Foul and unforgiving dawn
It gave a silent roar
For the shadow was no more
