Romantic Poem
I watched before my body

As it slowly began to expire above the ground

For all eternity.

Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg.

Dry mouth persists far into the dying process.

Requiring some degree of sedation.

Functional status as measured by dependencies in activities of daily living;

Severe physical and emotional symptoms, including pain, depression, and anxiety.

Activity decreases significantly in the final days and hours of life

Personal journey that each individual approaches in their own unique way.

Body temperature lowers by a degree or more

Surge of energy as they get nearer.

Mottled slowly works its way up the arms and legs.

Appreciating the preciousness of human life, based on the understanding

Body constantly changing, aging, moving toward death since birth.

He held his hand onto mines

No response to voice or touch stimuli.

His hands slowly slip away.

Choke or to inhale the foreign matter

No detectable to him.

Accepting the moment as a beautiful gift

Normal and natural part of saying good-bye.

It wasn't goodbye.

He held my hands and I said I do. {/b}
