Poem I wrote after a breakup.
Butterfly

For so many days and nights,
I've been wrapped in a cocoon so tight.
No room to move or breathe.
Let me out please.

You say your love is true.
That I'm your only boo.
All we're doing is making each other blue.
Neither of us have a clue.

Being together is so constricting.
You watch my every move, restricting.
Everything I do is wrong.
I can sing only a sad song.

Our lives have been so blended.
So now that everything has ended.
I don't know where to start.
Can I make it now that we're apart?

In life I'm turning a new page.
Finally let out of my cage.
Everyday I've had to fight.
But now I can finally see the light.

The world is so cold.
But my wings are starting to unfold.
My bonds to you begin to untie.
Now I'm a beautiful butterfly.

I've lived so long behind a heavy curtain,
Never being quite certain.
It's time for me to take flight,
And leave behind all the fright.

My wings are so new.
Will they carry me into skies so blue?
There is only one way to know.
But to do that I have to truly let go.

My wings so small have carried me high.
All I see around me is beautiful sky.
I've left behind all the fear.
I will shed not one more tear.

I could do this all along.
Singing nothing but happy songs.
Nothing can keep me down.
I am a beautiful butterfly now.
