Sometimes, you see yourself in a different light.
Reflection

By: Alexis Nicole

It’s so cold here.
I can’t find any familiarity.
What is this place?
Someone walks towards me,
A distant shadowed figure,
Surrounded in a white fog,
Thickening as they get closer.
All I see are their eyes.
Large, dark pupils, colorless.
How is it possible?
They are vague.
I fear this form.
Is it me?
No words are spoken,
I can’t even find my mouth.
Snow falls around me,
But it never touches me.
I’m stuck inside of a world,
A world that doesn’t exist.
How?
I can’t move.
The figure comes closer.
I can’t breathe.
It creeps slower.
Until it comes so close,
I can feel the heat.
The heat from it’s body, disoriented.
Wavering between person and animal.
A savage beast, greedy.
The hood hiding it’s face falls.
Revealing the figures identity.
I find myself, unfrozen.
I can feel my body, I’m real.
I fall back, into water.
Above me is my reflection.
The figure waving, a sinister smile framing her lips,
Is me.
