halloween poem written from prompt for contest
though the air feels crisp and clean
dark and grainy is our scene

all hallows eve it is this night
even the moon seems full of fright

scowling down on old jack pumpkin
who sits on a gate with a wicked grin

bewitching the children with his spooky glow
for they're only young they do not know

the wise and elderly are tucked up safe in bed
while those full of youth search for fear instead

in the course of the night be sure they'll find it
entering the house where jack pumpkin does sit

as they enter the moon shed a tear
for who could know if they'll reappear
