A poem about the sights and sounds of Halloween.
Excitement in the air,
dark, thrilling, breathless.
The beating heart does not slow
but races and pounds in my chest.

As day becomes night, shadows looming,
the hair on the back of my neck
stands on end, bringing chills and goosebumps.
It's full dark now, black as heck.

As I begin my journey,
the full moon peeks through clouds
which race along through the night sky,
foreboding, gloomy and proud.

Every sound is magnified into terror,
every sight is unclear, as though viewed
through a cloudy lens or distorted, like looking
into a side show mirror, the world is skewed.

What's that? Only a cat or was it more than that?
As the streets become filled
with costumed trick or treater's, I am alone,
though surrounded, cold and chilled.

Crunching leaves or scattered gravel,
the imaginings of my mind grow,
taking a life of their own, distorting reality,
the ghoulish world of far below.

As I walk quickly moving faster,
looking over my shoulder at every sound,
seeing in the shadows the creations of my mind's imagining,
dark and twisted shapes, visions abound.

Come with me please so I'm not alone.
I'm only six and need someone.
