A Cold war poem in light of upcoming Veterans Day
A Russian Christmas

Placid strides of gray against the solemn snow
Weaves of Gabardine, blood stained and fighting the cold
Boots bury deeper as more prints are replaced, more put out
The recollection of a greeting, of a steel entwined aftermath
Said steel meets body, body meets bone, and scabbard meets snow
But then it’s Christmas
The recollecting wind fast paced and full of revolutionary dreams
Caught against paranoia of the Bears claws, and on the other side of the realm
Man lost in shrouds, covering the Eagle’s talons and the machine
Bear and Eagle meet in a wasteland of flesh, blood, bone, organ, and carcass
A wasteland of tears, ice, and snow
They extend gift and ration, pictures of loved ones, and boxes of ammo and gun
Then Christmas ends and the men wage war again
