I wrote this for a poetry contest
A child stands crying in the rain

Begging for someone to notice her pain

Her icy hand rests upon the unmoving head

Of her only companion- her mother- now dead

Strangers pass, and they make their way

Some stop and some stare, but none ever stay

Some have opinions, which they wickedly dish

And soon, swift death is the girl's only wish

And all those who stare would never tell

How each saw themselves in her as well

Still, no one helped, because no one dared

And no one cried, because only she cared

And so the girl, broken, beaten, and deafened

By their cruel words, was left abandoned

Tears fell upon her frightened face

And froze there, forming patterns of lace

Yet still she stands as her hope descends

And there she waits until it all ends

Until the cold night steals her final breath

And she finally, happily, welcomes death
