Christmas, what always used to be a happy occasion leaves a sister heartbroken
The snow was falling steadily down
Today was the day you were due back in town
I waited impatiently as hours passed
Still you had not come to pass

I gazed out yonder past the barren trees
But all I saw was the wintry scene
music hummed from the radio in a twist of irony
I heard the lyrics"I'll be home for Christmas, you can count on me"

A rude awakening a shock was awaiting me that night
It would be December 24th, our favorite holiday you'd be taken from my life
Your death has left me uncertain, shaky such a strange twist of fate
That contrary to all our exciting plans the Lord was taking you today

I looked around at the decorations your presents on the floor
Feeling a rush of memories that I could not ignore
so odd the past tense phrases the remember whens replacing the nows
Because just this morning I had talked to you,you were heading to my house

The snow was falling steadily down
It's quiet essence making my heart pound
The time dragged by and hours passed
I stared unmoving out the frosty glass.
