Tribute to a truly illusive character
Time is unimportant
and such a fickle friend.
He's never found to stick around -
a quite perplexing trend.

Forever here, but never stays,
he comes and goes so fast
that in the breath you spy him -
he stands within the past.

We only know the deeds he's done
and never what he does.
For we can't see him as he is,
just only as he was.

He brings a gift he doesn't give.
You must steal it on a whim.
If you pause to ponder,
he has taken it with him.

We try to guess what he will bring
to maximize our gain.
But we may plan for sunshine
and he shows up with rain.

So savor opportunity
in all of his disguises.
Don't hesitate - appreciate
this world full of surprises.
