A Geordie folk song that I didn't write but don't want to forget
Barefoot days

Do you remember
When you and I was kids
Father and Mother
Wouldn’t buy new shoes for us
There’s a feeling we all had
Tho’ new shoes would make us glad
But the best days that I recall
Is when I had no shoes at all
Oh
Barefoot days
When you and I were kids
Get yer barrow oot
Barefoot days
Oh boy the things we did
We’d go down to a shady nook
With a bent pin for a hook
And we’d fish all day
We’d fish all night
But the damned old fish
Refused to bite
We’d slide and slide
On some old cellar door
We’d slide and slide
Until our pants got to-or-rn
And then
We’d have to gan home
And stay in our beds
Until our Mammy got busy with the needle and thred
Oh boy
What joy
We had in barefoot days.
