A river poem
I was born by a river
rolling past a southern town,
Given no direction
just told to keep my head down.

I was raised by the river
weaned upon the sky,
As I saw my reflection
I learned how to cry.

As I leaned towards the river
for comfort and release,
I found only chaos
instead of needed peace.

As my tears hit the surface
I saw what I'd become,
I gave feet to my freedom
and away I did run.

I ran far from the river
as far as I could see,
And as the sun hit my shoulders
I felt it burning me.

Sometime later -
I saw the writing in the dust,
The words that were written
were "betrayal" and "mistrust".

How I longed for the water
as the fire within me raged,
How I longed for the water
as I did start to age.

For high above the water
that rolls out to the sea,
Dark angels have gathered
waiting there for me.

I will die by the river
as it rolls away,
Bury me in the night
do not waste the day.

For my life was just a river
rolling through my brain,
Made up of many teardrops
made up of too much pain.
