A short poem about a nighttime encounter.
In the middle of the night
Gabrielle turned on the light
She felt something wasn’t right.
She ran down the stairs real quick
She heard something make a tick
Turned the light on with a click.
She saw nothing was amiss
So what had disturbed her bliss?
Then the wind began to hiss.
Felt a shiver down her spine,
And a whisper, “you are mine!”
She thought this was out of line!
She looked for it all around,
But she heard no creepy sound
And no strange thing had she found
So convinced she was not well,
She on this no more would dwell
Back to bed up the stairwell.
But once in her cozy bed
She felt that same sense of dread
And downstairs again she sped
But again there was no flaw
Nothing wrong in here she saw
Then the thing opened its jaw.
It had hidden from her sight
While she had turned on the light
Now it gave her a real fright.
In a swallow she was gone.
And the monster gave a yawn;
It was late, was almost dawn.
It was full having consumed,
Now it creeped out of the room.
Sad for her, there was no tomb.
