I know the title sounds plain, but give it a read, you might like it!
Soldiers Wives Poem

It's been one whole year now,

Since he went away.

It seems like now the days,

Are all just turning grey.

See my husband went away,

To forbidden lands.

I tried to beg him to stay,

But it wasn't in my hands.

I can almost hear the marching,

The sound of distant shouts.

But this is something more severe,

This isn't boy scouts.

I hear much worse sounds too,

Like gunshots, I swear.

But I'm here at home,

He's really there.

His darling daughter,

Five months old.

Has never heard her dad's voice,

But storys she get's told.

Of a super dad,

Who's coming home.

And she never cries,

She never moans.

I'm just waiting now,

for a knock on my door.

I'll open to an officer,

Who can only look at the floor.

He will tell me to sit down,

To take a few deep breaths.

He will say the words very slowly,

There have been some tragic deaths.

It hasn't happened yet,

But I can only worry.

He sent me a letter yesterday,

Saying that he is sorry.

Sorry for being away,

Sorry for taking long.

Regretting what he got into,

Knowing he was wrong.

For now I sit alone sometimes,

And dream of days to come.

When my love returns home,

I will no longer feel numb.

I know many women feel the same,

And all that I can do.

Is say to all those soldiers wives.

This ones for you.
