Johnny just tries to be normal.

Although he was delusional,
he eyed them all but did not stare.
He shouldered in among the group
and kept his shoulders good and square.

He felt the urge to pet Delight--
his chipmunk sharply dressed in red.
She went with Johnny everywhere
and she had perched upon his head.

But no, Johnny did not let on
to any member of the group.
He acted very normally
although Delight would often poop.

Johnny would always take the time
to give Delight her share of nuts.
Yet now Johnny was in the group
and Johnny thought that it took guts.

Each member had to give their name
and when Johnny had time to talk,
he banned imaginary things,
yet then Delight went for a walk.

Johnny felt scurry chipmunk paw
and whip of tail upon his nose.
He looked right at the counselor:
the counselor said, “So it goes.”

Johnny held crazy tight in check
and in the group he did all right.
But just when talk passed to the left,
Johnny whet whistle for Delight.

He reached into his carry-bag
and grabbed some nuts but would not give.
Then when he eyed the counselor,
she said, “Thus must we do, to live.”
