A poem about a young girl who took in a fairy child, thinking it was human.
Little Mary meek and mild
Came across a faery child
Took it in around her hearth
Unaware of truth of birth

Fair young Mary, sweet and kind
Ever blessed that she was blind
To her new babes black eyed stare
To its razor teeth or ivy hair

Smiling Mary, young and gay
Cared for a child that belonged to fey
But never saw inside the night
The will-o'-the-wisps that glew so bright

Lucky Mary kept her eyes
She only saw her baby's guise
But once the child had dropped its glamour
Sweet maid held to her enamor

Poor young Mary, not so blind
When the child was with its kind
Who took sweet Mary clean away
And thanked her with a game to play

Gentle Mary raised the fae
So as thanks that summers day
The faeries took her in thier game
With memories lost and life aflame

Asinine Mary danced 'till night
But never even knew to fight
The notes that made the faeries' song
Passed through time with her along

Dear old Mary, no longer fair
Awoke a crone with long grey hair
She thought she stayed for just a day
Yet danced a hundred years away.
