There Is Shadow And There's Light.

By Adam Kane.

In still and blissful ignorance, I repose.
With all the world in darkness,
and all her days at a close,
for the fires of dawn and midday,
have yielded to the twilight,
putting strife to peace and fight to flight.
Body and mind, at peace all,
rendered by the night's enchanting call.

In my slumber I see nought.
I see not the soldier slain in battle,
who for his sons and country fought,
I see not the starving, who in the burning sun have bled,
and now in desolation, are amongst the restless dead.
Nor see I the poor, whose broken bodies beg for alms,
yet who receive nothing, but life's coarsest balms.

Shadow shrouds all,
blinding the eye and deadening the mind.
Yet, not so easily is the ear with lies lined.
For silence is sundered swifter than shadow;
the soldier's corpse lies  still,
yet his slighted moan sounds from his bloodied barrow.
The labourer's broken body,
is hidden by the night's fraternity,
but his starving groans and dying moans,
echo through eternity.

Now comes the dawn's first light,
heralding the end of a long and restless night.
I rise to see the sun seep through the trees,
their dying blossoms borne upon a timid breeze,
for beneath the blossom trees stir the spirits of the fallen,
no longer deaf and dumb, as society would call them,
but sturdy and strong, present in light as in shadow.

An inconvenient truth,
blooming in it's youth.
