“Closed eyes, heart not beating, but a living love.” ―Avis Corea
It has been days since the last time I saw you;
Burning, dying
Like a candle's flame
Ready to flicker out.
You were weak, and I cried,
For you bore a strong sorrow on your face
That made you look older.
Your body was frail,
Like a tree against winter's brittle wind;
Breaking, falling
Deeper, deeper than I cared to see you.
I held your hand in those last minutes.
I broke into a sob
As I knew your light was fading;
It was your time,
But I was not ready.
I did not want to let go.
I bowed my head
As your fingers slid from mine;
Your dead, cold fingers;
The fingers that wove through mine for years.
But now, you are gone.
And I am alone.
