A poem about saving someone from themselves because of a flawd idea of what comes next.

Standing on the edge
Reaching out my hand
Watching you cry
Towards the sky
Praying for forgiveness
Not for all that you’ve done
But for what you are about to do
There will be no reply
At least none that you will know
Death will close any widening holes
Your logic is broken
Shattered just like your
Body is about to be
If you are allowed to have your way
You believe in something so strong
That the guilt of all that you’ve done
Has driven you to the edge
Below is certain death
Above is a wilderness of "what if's"
In between is where we exist
But for you such a thing
Has become not enough
I should have let you fall
Long before this dark day
But I fear that is not the case
Each time I have talked you down
Each time I have convinced you
To give life just one more try
Standing on the edge
Reaching out my hand
Watching you cry
Towards the sky
Somehow gets me every time
I don't want you to die
Not because I want you to live
But because I don't want you
To be disappointed with what comes next
How do I know
The truth is that I don't
But life has taught me enough
Far more than most
And through such lessons
I have surmised that you
Cannot afford to take that step
That you so desperately want to believe
Will lead you to a place better than
The only one you’ve ever known
So again, I will save you from yourself
Just take my hand and step back
From the edge of what you are convinced
Will be waiting for you next…
