Advice For My Daughter

Strive to thrive and
Throw your grace in the face of
Those who would wound you
Rage against this age of
Spite, focus your sight
On that which uplifts you

Harness your intensity,
And develop your propensity
For love and laughter and light
Rail to prevail against failure
Do not ever surrender your fight

Embrace the strange change of
Growing older and bolder
As time ticks and tumbles along
Cherish your tears,
But spit on your fears
Rejoice in the righting of wrongs

Take a reckless chance on romance
And dance through the dark and dreary
Fire your desire, seek to inspire
Your twin soul to the goal, though weary

Do not judge those who trudge
Peculiar paths from your own
And do not wait at the gate
For fate to forge your future
Lest you mourn the chances blown

Thrill to the chill of a still silent moment
Own it whenever you can
Pray for the pitiful poor, but do more
They adore the help from your hand

Live proud and out loud
Love the sublime time
You’ve been given to live in
And when it’s finished:

Regret nothing.
