this is a short poem about the horror from the Holocaust that I had to write for school
Broken spirits and burning buildings

The death march begins

Passed the point of no return

Never looking back

Trains filled to capacity

Auschwitz appears on the horizon

Nearing the front gates

“Work will set you free”

The selection process begins

Worker, lab rat, or another pile of ashes

Women children and men put to work

Enslaved by the Nazi regime

Agonizing pain and starvation

The only two belongings these people know

Working themselves to death

Hoping for a break in the war

Looking for tomorrow

Nearing the end

Smoke and soot fill the air

The smell of burning bodies

Piles of prisoners worldly possessions

Surrounded by death

Waiting for death to take you

Kneeling at the feet of the personification of death

It’s all over
