Saving a lost puppy
I saw him there, he called to me,
Young life against the ancient sea.
He fell one time and there he lie,
Perhaps to sleep, perhaps to die.

A bit of fluff, a pound of flesh,
To die within the ocean’s breath.
A fate I could consign to none,
A withered pup, the scalding sun.

I took him home, he learned to live,
To trust with all that he could give.
One day we will return again
A shoreline stretch, my closest friend.
