Just got my medicare card in the mail!
The mailman arrived earlier than usual today and brought the mail
Normally, I am at work considering what bills to pay and which ones should wait Today, was different, I was lollygagging around and watching the trees
He put the mail in my hand and suddenly just one piece got my attention

The piece that said Social Security Office and showed a hint of red
Curiously, I opened the envelope and looked inside, and with apprehension read
Sign below, you have Part A hospital coverage and nothing else
I looked at the top of the paper and it read cut this out and destroy the rest

Right away, I was filled with dread, I was now on Medicare
Standing there looking at the trees, I had to admit, I had finally gotten old
Why else would I be receiving a Medicare card with my name on it
Nobody liked me enough to send just a plain oh hello card

Those people in Washington must of heard how I was protesting getting old
So they hurried up and sent me that old Medicare Card
To prove to everyone that they were on top of their jobs
Keeping count of all those fighting against growing old

Now, with Medicare card in hand I know it's official across the land
I am no longer in the party of the young
Because my Medicare card says I am an official card carrying member  of the old
Now, with my Medicare card, I can boldly go where I have never gone before

To hospitals and doctors and any where else I’ve been told
Because this brand new Medicare card can open new doors
For a spring chicken like me to explore
Thank you Medicare Card for making It official, I am old!
