The hopelessness of helping an addict.

To divided loyalties;
The addict, the long suffering child at heart,
Polarised by his childhood,
Pain and anguish from the start.
Conception of a victim,
Alone from birth,
Absorbed by his vulnerability,
Aching to be loved; understood.
Should he be left?
Left to fall,
Destruct. Destroy

Decimated family; past and present,
Absent and known.
He is loved, reciprocation is doomed,
Poisoned by rejection,
Bile and fury assumed;
To me to mine that I care for,
Fight for,
The chasm widens,
Full of his gall, obscure resentment.

Protect.
Resolve.
Disown.
Purveyor, owner of his hatred, his fear.
Clawing at my mind, soul,
I prevail in helplessness.
