If only it could understand my loneliness...
"If a star fell each time I thought of you, then the moon would truly know what loneliness feels like."  ~Author Unknown

If a star fell each time I thought of you,

Then the moon would truly know what loneliness feels like.

As I drift slowly, painfully throughout the day, I wonder if you hurt too,

Or if I alone feel the pain every time the clocks strike.

All these moments without you,

Slicing through me like a cold breeze

Through a light jacket thrown on without a clue,

Leaving me shivering with feeling, brought down upon my knees.

Slowly I feel as if the pain is starting to fade,

Only too late realizing in its place is an emptiness arising.

This feeling, cutting through me like the sharpest blade,

Leaving me fixated on the pain, my own weakness despising.

Desperately, I try to retreat into my own mind,

Barely surprised when I discover only thoughts of you abound,

Now even my mind is constricting me, this inescapable bind,

Leaving me stuck in place, all the while images of you surround.

Though part of me wants to make these thoughts vanish,

It dawns on me that they are from my happiest days...

"I want to be able to have moments like those with her again," I choke out in a wish,

Leaving me the same as when I closed my eyes, the pain just stays.

Maybe tonight, if I look into the evening sky,

Surrounded by darkness the moon will sit,

Just as alone in this overcrowded life as I,

Together alone, united through this empty page I have writ...
