A poem I wrote for my R.E lesson at school, symbolizing a woman becoming a mother.
Anxiety overcomes me, ignoring my plea
Fear runs through these veins, settling as quiet as can be
The pain refuses to leave, latching its tiny hands on my life
Surging the pain through my body, more painful than the knife
Thrilling shrieks are heard, all throughout the room
This lonely child of mine, still not leaving the womb

Tiredness overcomes me, lacing me with sleep
Pulling my eyelids further, drifting to the deep
This child of mine cries loudly, a deafening noise at first
But the motherhood that surrounds me, wishes to quench this child’s thirst
This child of mine becomes weaker, nestling in my arms
Clearly proven not a speaker, one of this child’s charms
This child of mine gets gentle, going quiet in my hold
Each move I make now parental, what a story to be told
This child of mine…
