On feeling lazy.
Lazy is the feeling today
like hounds dogs in July.
My friend came by with his high five
but five was just too high.

Today the turn of laziness
weighs on me like a whale.
Ambition is a noble ship--
a ship that has set sail.

That purpose wearing tennis shoes
reclines in his bare feet.
He’d like to put his tube socks on,
yet loafing is replete.

This day the lazy hosts soiree
without a tablecloth.
Instead of busy as a bee,
he hangs content with sloth.

And so I feel the lazy steal
all energy from me.
The motivation is locked up,
and lazy has the key.

The lazy comes dealing today
and with his poker face,
deals cards devoid of any worth
to keep me in my place.

Today the lazy falls on me
like hammers with a need.
I’d like to rev my motor up,
but idle is my speed.
