A dark poem
She is never able to run far
Before the shadows swirl ‘round to haunt her
They taunt her incessantly
With their unintelligible burr

She stares at them without seeing
The drugs soon kicking in
She knows what they are doing
However, she cannot stop them

They defile her in ways
Too horrid to speak of
While tears stream from her eyes
And they loom up above

That’s when the blessed darkness comes
And the sweet oblivion
She lay there like a rag doll
Until, at last, they were done

Ever since then she’s been running
From herself as much as them
Those horrid shadow creatures
More animals than men

They thought they took her body
But they also took her soul
And now she lives in fear
That one day they will know

That they have such power
And that they breed such misery
She needs to rid herself of the demons
But she knows it cannot be

They will live with her forever
A stain upon her heart
The darkness in her soul
Will ne’er from her depart

Swift as lightning, the darkness takes over
There’s nothing left for her to do
The shadows rip and shred her soul
But to her, it’s nothing new.
